Global Talent Stream (GTS) is a program under Canada's Temporary Foreign Worker Program that aims to help Canadian employers bring in skilled foreign workers quickly and efficiently. The GTS is designed to attract top talent from around the world to fill specialized positions in Canada.

4.1 Eligibility
The GTS consists of two categories: Category A and Category B
Category A: Global Talent Stream for High-Demand Occupations:
- Purpose:
- Designed for employers looking to fill positions found on the Global Talent Occupations List. These are roles where there's a recognized shortage of skilled workers in Canada.
- Occupations:
- The Global Talent Occupations List includes specific high-demand occupations in fields like Information Technology (IT), science, engineering, and mathematics.
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Employers must demonstrate that they are unable to find Canadian citizens or permanent residents to fill these positions, justifying the need to hire a foreign worker.
Category B: Global Talent Stream for Employers Needing to Hire Unique and Specialized Talent:
- Purpose:
- Tailored for employers who need to hire foreign workers for unique and specialized positions that might not be on the Global Talent Occupations List.
- Occupations:
- Employers can bring in foreign workers for roles that are not covered in Category A, enabling them to meet specific business needs.
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Employers must work with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to develop a Labor Market Benefits Plan. This plan outlines the employer's commitment to activities that will have a positive impact on the Canadian labor market.
- Employers are required to hire Canadians for every foreign worker they bring in under Category B, demonstrating their commitment to growing and developing the local workforce.
General Requirements regardless of the categories
- Both categories under the GTS provide expedited processing, with work permit applications typically processed within two weeks.
- Work permits issued under the GTS are generally valid for up to two years.
- Employers must comply with the terms of the Labor Market Benefits Plan to ensure that they are contributing positively to the Canadian labor market.
